Finally made it!

So I've arrived in Spain. After two flights and plenty of stuff to write about, I'm here at Emma's flat.

I guess I will start with my flight from DFW to London. Originally, I had planned to title this post "Window Seat w/ shade down." See I was feeling pretty nervous about the flight. To make matters worse, after we boarded the plane, we were delayed for 30 minutes at the gate. Anywho, I must of lost track of time and I didn't know wether we were in the air or not. So I seriously thought, we had been flying for quite some time, when the captain comes on the PA and announces our take off. See, I had the shade down because I was afraid to look out. About half way through the flight, I finally decided to open the shade, however, it was pitch black of course. It wasn't til we arrived in London, that I opened the shade and we could look over the country. It was beautiful, the sea was so blue and London had some very lush green countryside. We landed in London and I realized another girl from my class was on the same flight. We decided to stick together. It was rather difficult to find our connecting flight to Spain. But, we finally managed and boarded a bus to the plane.

Flight #2- On the flight to Spain, I was feeling more comfortable; so immediately following the departure, I lifted the shade and peeked out of my window. Again we were flying over water, however, once we were over Spain, it was amazing. Spain has so many mountains. It also looked like a sandy brown desert. The flight was rather bumpy but the entertainment was worth it. I just so happen to be sitting next to some real "woohoo" girls. They told me they were backpacking through Europe for their high school graduation celebration. The four girls were from Mexico City, so they were happy to be traveling to Spain, were they knew the language. Although, they knew English as well. Well, they were writing in their diaries and talking amongst each other about their escapades in London. It was completely amusing. I overheard how they went dancing, met boys, and got drunk. The comment that really stuck out was the one that one girl had mentioned to another, since she couldn't recall what had happened the night before. She told her friend (in Spanish) "Ya, we ate outside in the streets because the restaurants were all closed. Remember "El negrito drogito queria de tu comida." I immediately busted out laughing and they knew I understood Spanish. Anywho, the African American drug addict wanting some of their food was only one part of their crazy adventures in London. I can't believe they were eating in the streets like at 4am, alone. Oh well, I suppose they are just enjoying their vacation.

Arrival in Spain: Once I arrived in Spain, it took about one hour to find my luggage. There weren't any directions as to how to locate your baggage. It was very confusing and I got frustrated. However, Monica (my roomie) was my saving grace. As soon as I got to my luggage, I heard a familiar voice call out my name. Monica was waiting for me at the luggage claim. (for 4 hours). She is so awesome. Then we took a taxi to Emma's flat. Spain is not what I expected. There are so many apt. buildings. They are very tall and made of bricks, I believe. Most of them look the same. I also noticed a lot, I mean a lot of graffitti. I'm not sure what they means, but I found it strange. I mean it was all over the highway walls from the airport to Emma's flat.

Emma's Flat is absolutely beautiful. the room we are staying in looks out over the street, cool but probably noisy. She has everything we need and I like it. She seems very nice. She went over some of the house rules and let us unload our baggage. Then we logged onto the internet, so I could blog. I can't believe I'm a complete blog addict in like 2 days. :)

Next time I will post pics. I miss everyone and I can't wait to tell you guys more about my trip. I love you Jay!

  2. Great story, hang in there.

Jay: when I graduated college my friend and I went hostel hopping in Europe, traveled to 7 different countries. My husband wanted to come too, but I reminded him it was my reward not his. You two can have your own private trip later, and Rosa can be your tour guide:)

Rosa: Soak up all of your experiences. Funny thing is that I have another friend in Spain right now too! She is originally from Spain and is there to give birth to her second son because they have free health care. She is a teacher in Fort Worth actually. I will look forward to your next post!

  3. Take her advice, it can and will sneak up on you if you aren't careful.
When I traveled to Germany, Spain and France, it really seemed like only a few days but it was also over 20. My camera breaking the 2nd day there didn't help matters. Talk to you tomorrow!!!
